How to specify Stair nosings shall be type No._________ as manufactured by American Safety Tread Company, Helena, Alabama 35080.Telephone 1-800-245-4881. The base shall consist of heat treated extruded aluminum alloy 6063-T6. The abrasive filler shall consist of a mixture of aluminum oxide and silicon carbide granules in an epoxy matrix locked into the extruded channels of the base. The abrasive ribs shall project a minimum of 1/16 inch above the extruded channels. Nosings shall terminate not more than 3" from ends of steps for poured concrete stairs;for concrete filled steel pan stairs, nosings shall be full length of steps less 1/8" clearance. Color shall be as selected by the architect. |

State of California Title 24 Safety strip for the visually impaired The State of California stripping code for the visually impaired, calls for all stair treads to have an ant-slip strip of contrasting color 2 inches wide, parallel to and not more than 1 inch from the front nose of each step. Our TYPE 24 safety strip meets all the requirements of California Title 24. It is available with extruded anchor for poured stairs and with holes for anchoring into wood or stone. Replaceable Two Stage System This system allows easy replacement of the safety nosing. Our TP-311 is made of two components consisting of the same high quality extruded aluminum and epoxy abrasive filler as our other extruded stair nosings. The sub channel is shipped with a pre-fabricated plywood board ready for installation in poured concrete stairs. Prior to final stages of construction, the plywood board is removed and the safety tread is fastened to the sub channel. The safety tread can be replaced with a new unit at any time after initial installation. |
